Argentina faces Mexico today

Argentina vs Mexico

Argentina vs. Mexico

Argentine vs. Mexico is the pulsating match in Round 16 at World Cup FIFA 2010 in Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg, today, Sunday, June 27th 2010. The match starts at 20:30 local time. Mexican will be looking to avenge their 1-2 defeat in World Cup finals in 2006 when the two time winner Argentina takes on Mexico here today. For a recall, four years ago the teams faced each other in Germany at the same Round of 16 and won it by a stunning extra time goal by Maxi Rodriguez and Argentina won the match by 1-0.

FIFA World Cup 2010 between Argentina and Mexico at the Round 16 of FIFA WC on Sunday will be a hair rising experience with unquestionable Argentine attacking prowess against
the attacking talent of Mexican squad especially after their brilliant 2-0 win against France.  Even Diego Maradona has openly admitted that the attacking talent of the Mexican team has given him reasons to worry for today’s match. Argentina looks impressive though with their three wins in Group B and tops point table with 9 points. Whereas Mexico is quick second with 4 points in Group A point table.

Argentina vs. Mexico at the World Cup FIFA 2010 will be important for Javier Aguirre (manager Mexico) who will play with a simple objective to get to the elusive fifth game at a FIFA WC finals tournament and book their place in the quarter finals for the first time in 24 years. The Mexican squad looks brilliant with players like Giovani dos Santos, Javier Hernandez, Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Carlos Vela and Guillermo Franco. The squad is capable enough to pose danger to Argentine defence but have to put some great firework to match Argentine’s in the midfield.

The game between Argentina and Mexico promises to be a brilliant show with the mascot Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain who scored a hattrick against South Korea in the Argentine squad. J S Veron, who is Argentine mid fielder and a key player in today’s match is another player that Mexico needs to watch out for. Coach Diego Maradona calls him his ‘Xavi’ and says that he is irreplaceable because of his influence over Messi. Argentina has swept away Nigeria, Greece and South Korea to confirm their place in last 16. Rafael Marquez, Captain Mexico, was quoted saying, “We have an encounter ahead which we have to enjoy, but we will play to the death to win it.”

Diego Maradona, coach Argentina, in an interview expressed his worries about the attacking talent of the Mexicans and said that it is impossible to know what team they will play. He said, “We’re going to give Mexico the respect they deserve because, in spite of losing against Uruguay, they know exactly what they’re doing. We will try to get them and look for their weaknesses.”

USA VS Ghana world cup 2010

USA VS Ghana world cup football live Steaming

After an incredibly dramatic group stage that saw emotions shift from anger to sadness to joy at remarkable pace, the USA has qualified for the World Cup round of 16 and won Group C. The bad calls, poor finishing and all of the other problems for the Yanks were briefly forgotten when Landon Donovan sank that injury-time winner over Algeria. Now it’s on to the knockouts, to face an opponent that US fans will remember well – Ghana. It was the last match of their 2006 World Cup group when Ghana eliminated the USA on a late penalty from Steven Appiah. The Yanks will be out for revenge, as well as to prove that they can hang with the big boys on the biggest stage.

Ghana has a whole different set of motivations. Despite not scoring a goal from open play in their three group matches, and coming into the tournament without their biggest star Michael Essien, the Black Stars enter this match as the last African team alive in Africa’s World Cup. No pressure, guys. The Bafana Bafana fans and their vuvuzelas have moved on from their team’s elimination and put much of their support behind Ghana, so they will be very much the home side.

WHAT’S AT STAKE
Where do you want to start? The struggle for respect of an up and coming footballing nation vs. the desperate hope that an African side can do something truly memorable in this World Cup. Not to mention that even without these storylines, we’re talking about the knockouts now. What’s at stake is a place in the quarterfinals and the knowledge that you are two wins, not three, from a spot in the biggest single match in football, the World Cup final.
